CATHOLICS in Brisbane archdiocese have chosen education in the faith as the top priority for next year’s archdiocesan synod.
Archbishop John Bathersby commended the choice in a pastoral letter, titled ‘Responses to the Outcomes of the Synod Consultation’, which will be read at all Masses in Brisbane archdiocese this weekend.
The consultation period in preparation for the synod began at Pentecost last year and ended at Pentecost this year.
It brought together people from parishes and deaneries, religious institutes, Church agencies and organisations, renewal movements and special groups.
Archbishop Bathersby said in his letter that in calling the synod he was convinced that as the older vision of Church waned there would also need to be a new education in the faith.
‘I was therefore surprised but delighted to discover that the highest priority in the archdiocesan-wide consultation for our eagerly anticipated synod was given to ‘education in the faith’,’ he said.
