AUSTRALIA’S Catholic bishops have thrown their support behind people struggling from the drought and prayers for rain being run in many dioceses across the country.
The support came in the form of a pastoral letter released after the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference plenary meeting from November 27-December 1 in Sydney.
The bishops said they were well aware of how difficult life was in rural communities.
They said at times like this they realised that people are not the master of the forces of nature and this can be deeply unsettling.
They asked all Catholics to join them in praying for rain and for those suffering the effects of drought.
“The bishops stand as one with all who are struggling and we are all keen to offer still more practical assistance to meet the growing needs.
“We have prayed for you here and you will be in our prayers from day to day through this difficult time,” they said.
