QUEENSLAND’S newest university campus, the Australian Catholic University (ACU National) Brisbane campus at Banyo, will open for its first day of operations on January 20.
This follows the transfer of staff and operations from the old Mitchelton campus to the site of the former Queensland seminary.
Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muredach Dynan said he was delighted to move into the new campus.
‘The campus combines the best of new technology and facilities with the rich history and fine architecture of the former seminary,’ Prof Dynan said.
With a purpose-built library as its centrepiece, the new campus also has a flexible learning centre, computer laboratory, clinical and science laboratories, as well as lecture theatres and seminar facilities.
Recreational facilities such as a swimming pool, sporting ovals, gymnasium, barbecue area, cafe and bar will also be available to students.
The $34.5 million Brisbane campus construction project has included both refurbishment and renovation of the existing seminary buildings and the construction of new buildings to house state-of-the-art teaching, research and administration facilities.
Chair of the ACU National Queensland Appeal Committee and former Brisbane Lord Mayor, Sallyanne Atkinson, is seeking to raise a minimum of $3 million to assist in the campus construction.
‘This is an exciting opportunity to provide a campus facility that produces graduates who will serve the community with distinction,’ Ms Atkinson said.
