SITTING in the rain in St Peter’s Square, Dino and Josephine Giacomantonio and their daughter, Maria, recently celebrated one of the most exciting days of their lives.
On October 1, the great uncle of 61 year-old Dino, Cesidio Giacomantonio, was made a saint by Pope John Paul II in front of a crowd of thousands.
The trio from Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception parish in Everton Park watched as the Pope emerged through the Holy Door, accompanied by hundreds of cardinals and priests.
A sea of people, wearing different coloured scarves, from countries all over the world, stretched as far as the eye could see and even the rain couldn’t dampen their good spirits.
St Cesidio was one of 120 Chinese martyrs canonised by the Pope.
