ABOUT 480 young people worshipped together at a Brisbane’s West Deanery Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Kenmore, on March 4.
It was the first deanery Mass for the year, and 80 Stuartholme School students were among the crowd.
“Mass commenced with a special entrance procession with young men of the deanery draping a large wooden cross in the purple colours of Lent,” deanery projects officer Michael Doherty said.
“Then seven young adults processed in, each carrying the name of their parish, which when placed together, formed the Eucharistic symbol on the deanery banner.”
Kenmore parish priest Fr Francis Onwunali presided at the Mass and a youth choir and band led the music with each parish represented.
Deacon Russ Nelson also was present.
“A great social gathering occurred after Mass as supper was served,” Michael said.
It was followed by a question-and-answer session, with 50 young adults staying for that.
“(They stayed) to pray, listen to faith stories and ask questions,” Michael said of their questions to Fr Onwunali, Deacon Nelson and Faith and Life Vicariate’s Youth and Children’s Ministry team member Anita Hendrie.
“We are grateful to the deanery youth ministry team, Kenmore parish and the Kenmore youth team and all who participated in so many ways,” Michael said.
The deanery’s next youth event is a “Youth in Liturgy” workshop on May 4 in Jindalee.
