ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby has approved a revised composition of deaneries in Brisbane archdiocese.
From April 12, the archdiocese will have 13 deaneries instead of 10, and the membership of some existing deaneries will change.
The new deaneries – Logan, Redland Bayside and another yet to be named – are centred on growth areas.
The unnamed deanery includes Pine Rivers, Petrie, Redcliffe City, Burpengary, Caboolture and Stanley River parishes. Archdiocesan moderator Fr Peter Meneely said a name would be chosen at the first deanery meeting.
Logan deanery takes in Beaudesert, Beenleigh, Browns Plains, Daisy Hill, Kingston-Marsden, Loganholme, Rochedale and Woodridge.
Redland Bayside includes Alexandra Hills, Birkdale, Capalaba, Cleveland, Manly, Victoria Point and Wynnum.
Other changes include a reduction in the size of North Coast deanery from 10 to four parishes – Caloundra, Maroochydore, Nambour and Noosa District – with other former member parishes forming the new deanery yet to be named.
The Redland Bayside parishes have come from Brisbane East deanery, and the Logan parishes have come from Brisbane South.
The changes follow consultation with those involved in parish leadership and ministry, and members of key archdiocesan bodies advising the archbishop.
Archbishop Bathersby said the changes had been carefully considered by the Council of Priests and deans.
In announcing the changes, Archbishop Bathersby said the terms of the current deans conclude at Easter but they may be appointed again. New appointments will be for a term of five years.
