NEVILLE Yun’s ordination into the transitional diaconate was made memorable by the impressive liturgy, the presence of family and friends, and the support of fellow seminarians and more than 20 priests.
Deacon Yun, 42, started his path to the priesthood after a transformative experience at Sydney’s World Youth Day in 2008.
He took the next important step on the journey on June 21 at Australian Catholic University’s Holy Spirit Chapel, at Banyo, Brisbane.
“A lot of people commented on how lovely the liturgy was,” he said.
“The liturgy allowed me to really think about the promises I was making.
“It was also wonderful to be celebrating with so many people who had accompanied me on my journey so far.”
Deacon Yun’s parents Eddie and Helen attended the Mass, together with sister Michelle Chow, nephew Curtis and niece Hayley.
The new deacon said he had “felt the grace of God very much present on the day”.
“One of those attending my ordination said I was really beaming,” he said.
“He also said I looked like I belonged up at the altar.
“This was very encouraging to me.”
As a seminarian, Deacon Yun was on pastoral placement from 2011 to 2012 in Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish, Springfield, in Brisbane’s west.
Deacon Yun will soon take up a new role with other clergy at St Stephen’s Cathedral.
