BROAD smiles will appear on the faces of children a little less fortunate this Christmas, and it is all thanks to a toy appeal launched on November 14.
The 2005 Christmas Toy Appeal aims to collect more than 11,000 toys which volunteers from the St Vincent de Paul Society in Queensland will distribute to disadvantaged tots and teens throughout the state.
Radio 4BH and QR, in conjunction with Quest Community Newspapers, launched the appeal at Central Station in Brisbane.
Queensland Reds fly half Julian Huxley and Santa made a special appearance at the launch along with students from Brisbane’s St James College.
St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland vice-president John Campbell said Christmas was not a happy time for those struggling families who could not afford to give their children something on Christmas morning.
The public is invited to donate unwrapped new toys for tots through to teens at any QR station or St Vinnies shop throughout Queensland. The appeal continues until December 19.
The Toy Appeal coincides with the Queensland St Vincent de Paul Society Christmas Appeal.
Credit card donations can be made by visiting www.vinnnies.org.au/qld or phone 13 1812.
