The Catholic Leader is preparing for a new distribution model to readers outside of Brisbane archdiocese.

From May 25, the paper will no longer be delivered to parishes in Cairns, Toowoomba and Townsville dioceses and to most parts of Rockhampton diocese.

It will remain in the Yeppoon, Bundaberg and Rockhampton cathedral parishes and in all parishes of the Brisbane archdiocese.

Instead, the paper will revert to a subscription model in those parts delivered to readers’ homes.

The Catholic Leader managing editor Matt Emerick said the changes were made as the rising costs of newspaper distribution made it unsustainable to continue to deliver the paper to parishes in its current format.

“The Catholic Leader will be available to our readers in regional areas by individual subscriptions of the paper delivered to homes or the digital edition delivered to your email inbox,” he said.

Mr Emerick said the Leader team had decided on the new subscription model rather than increasing the price of the paper to cover distribution costs.

“The Catholic Leader team would like to thank all our valued readers for supporting quality Catholic journalism and I would like to encourage them to keep supporting with a personal subscription,” he said.

“It’s the most cost-effective way for readers get the good news each week.”

Mr Emerick said all parishes in Brisbane archdiocese would continue to receive their papers each week.

He said The Catholic Leader news and advertising teams would continue to strive to produce a newspaper that was a voice for the Church.

“We are proud to continue our reputation for producing quality Catholic journalism highlighting the human face of the Church,” he said.

“There are few other avenues for people to receive Catholic news that is faithful to the teachings of the Church than in a Catholic newspaper, and our team works hard to ensure that our newspaper stands out as having a national influence and importance.”

The Catholic Leader is published weekly in Brisbane and has earned the reputation of being one of Australia’s best Catholic newspapers.
