JERUSALEM (CNS) Catholics joined with their fellow Jordanians in public demonstrations against the November 9 Amman bombings that left at least 60 people dead.
“This is a big sadness for all, and today we all feel together,” said Jerusalem Auxiliary Bishop and patriarchal vicar for Jordan, Selim Sayegh, in a November 11 phone interview from Jordan.
He said he instructed all Catholic churches in Jordan to toll their bells at noon on November 11 in solidarity with the victims of the violence.
Bishop Sayegh said Catholics have been offering special prayers for the victims.
In a November 10 statement, Latin Patriarch Michel Sabbah of Jerusalem, who is also patriarch of Latin rite Catholics in Jordan, condemned the violence and sent the condolences of the entire patriarchate to Jordanian King Abdullah II and the families of the victims.
Three explosions rocked the Jordanian capital when suicide bombers set off almost simultaneous bombs in three hotels.
