QUEENSLAND faith-based and not for profit leaders gathered in Brisbane this month for the launch of the first national energy efficiency network, or NEEN.
Initiated by ecological Church agency Catholic Earthcare, and with funding from the Australian Government, NEEN offers a “learning community approach” to enable sustainable action.
The project features 14 case studies from communities across Australia to show how various communities have implemented energy efficiency and energy management responses.
Catholic Earthcare director Jacqui Rémond said NEEN could enable “a significant difference” on a community level at a time when society faces “such huge ecological crisis”.
“We want more action for the earth to be cared for, and through connecting with everyone across Australia that we can make this change, and it can ripple out to family, friends, neighbours, you name it,” Mrs Rémond said.
“That’s God’s plan for us, to be connected with other human beings, with God, and the earth.”
NEEN’s national leader Gareth Johnston the key to a sustainable future was relationships.
