MANILA (CNS): Cardinal Jaime Sin of Manila was in a stable condition after suffering a mild stroke on March 30.
A statement on March 31 from Manila archdiocese said the cardinal was ‘awake, conscious and in stable condition’ and resting at the Cardinal Santos Medical Centre in San Juan, east of Manila.
The cardinal was taken to the centre at around 7am the previous day after celebrating Sunday Mass.
Dr Ramon Sin, the cardinal’s brother, said that the seizures were due to ‘a transient ischemic attack, or mild stroke in layman’s terms’.
He said medical tests showed no haemorrhaging, indicating the cardinal would be able to resume ‘his usual activities’ after a few days’ rest in hospital.
The doctor, a pathologist, said his brother is on medication for the condition. He said Cardinal Sin, 74, is also on medication for diabetes and is undergoing daily dialysis treatment for a kidney ailment.
