FILIPINO groups in Australia have asked for the Catholic community’s help to speed up the return of wrongly deported Australian, Vivian Alvarez Solon.
They have approached the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission in Brisbane for its assistance.
The commission’s executive officer, Peter Arndt, is calling for all Catholics to write to the Prime Minister urging the Government to offer a just package of support so Ms Alvarez Solon can return.
‘We understand that Vivian was due to fly back to Australia on June 14 but that the failure of the Australian Government to offer her the assurances of support she needs resulted in her decision to remain in the Philippines.’
Mr Arndt said the Government was offering to fly Ms Alvarez Solon back to Australia without giving her guarantees about the provision of accommodation, care and income.
He said various Filipino groups had already made arrangements to volunteer support for Vivian when she returned.
