BRISBANE archdiocese will host a post-World Youth Day event – “Be My Witnesses” – on October 11, and it will be celebratory and reflective at the same time.
The archdiocese’s WYD08 project co-ordinator Michael Hart said the event would be “fun, energetic and exciting”.
“It will be exciting because the journey has been exciting. It’s an exciting story … full of change and transformation,” he said.
Hopeful of filling the 1600 seats of the Concert Hall in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Brisbane, Mr Hart said the three hours set aside would be filled with prayer, worship, multimedia presentations, testimony and input including an address from Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane.
Encouraging all ages to attend, from those who took the pilgrimage to Sydney, to others who opened their homes as part of BrizStay and those who witnessed the Journey of the WYD08 Cross and Icon, Mr Hart described World Youth Day as a whole, as “a mosaic”.
“Each person plays a little part in the mosaic but it’s not until you look at the mosaic overall that you get the full image,” he said.
“That’s what we are hoping the event will be like … a chance to see the whole picture.”
More than two years on, Mr Hart said “the dream is far greater” in terms of the number of people who have “been engaged in the World Youth Day experience”.
“We had about 1000 people at the launch (in July, 2006),” he said.
“About 26,000 people engaged the cross and icon journey, over 2000 families engaged in BrizStay… over 15,000 in the Heart of the City event.
