LENTEN pledges will start on Ash Wednesday (February 17) and those leading the 40 Days for Life campaign are calling for support.
The pro-life effort running until March 28 will again focus on fasting, community outreach and prayer – with a “prayerful vigil” running continuously outside an abortion clinic in Bowen Hills, near Brisbane city.
“We are praying that with God’s help, this groundbreaking effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our city – and throughout the world,” coordinator Brendan Wong said.
Brendan and Judy Wong, the parents of two young children, are committed to leading the internationally recognised 40 Days for Life campaign in Brisbane and are grateful for support from other Christians.
Yesterday (January 30) the group offered a “cast the vision” event to explain what is ahead during Lent.
40 Days for Life this year will be co-ordinated in 156 cities – said to be “the largest yet” since beginning in 2004 in Texas.
Last November an American abortion clinic – where a vigil had been organised during Lent – closed due to a lack of clients.
Organisers of 40 Days for Life are adamant “prayer is powerful and it works”.
