Call to pray for renewal

ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby is leading a prayer effort for the renewal of Brisbane archdiocese, seeking an unleashing of the Holy Spirit ‘like a new Pentecost’.

The archbishop launched the prayer campaign on April 23 at the Marymac Community Centre, Annerley during a meeting of 300 people drawn from across the archdiocese.

He challenged them to unite their prayers with his.

‘Let us ask God to unleash the Holy Spirit on this archdiocese so that people will return to a recognition of God, not just at Easter or Christmas time but always, so that the vocations of priesthood and religious life will flow again, and we will live always with a sense of God.

‘May our combined prayer to the Holy Spirit fill our archdiocese with the life and vitality for which we long.’

Everyday Mission development officer in the Faith and Life Vicariate, Mike Humphrys said the gathering included members of parish pastoral councils, renewal groups, youth movements, schools, indigenous communities, archdiocesan commissions and councils, prayer groups and clergy.

Many of those attending joined PrayerFIRE, the existing prayer network, encouraging members of the archdiocese to pray for its life and mission.

Details about the prayer network are available at www.bne.catholic.net.au/prayerfire or register by phoning the Everyday Mission team from the Faith and Life Vicariate on (07) 3336 9323.
