A BRISBANE woman has been appointed to the Joint Working Group between the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches (WCC).
Margaret Naylon, Executive Officer of the Brisbane Archdiocesan Commission for Ecumenism and Interfaith Relations has been appointed for seven years.
Archbishop John Bathersby announced her appointment after it was confirmed in February by Cardinal Walter Kasper, the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.
She will attend her first executive of the Joint Working Group (JWC) in Geneva early next week from March 19-20.
Ms Naylon said she was excited and honoured by the appointment.
“The JWC plays a significant role in ecumenical contact and cooperation.
“It is very important that these two bodies which represent the vast majority of Christians in the world, work together on the challenging issues of our time.”
