BRISBANE South Deanery is talking straight about sexuality in the light of Church teachings.
It has been offering Christopher West’s Theology of the Body study called “Freedom to Love” to 17-to-35-year-olds.
In the study’s promotion the deanery said the popular author “lays out a convincing and refreshing road map to living a life of authentic freedom and love”.
The deanery’s youth co-ordinator Kristen Roe said Freedom to Love had been met with a “great response” from young people.
“We get around 20 people per gathering, however new people attend every week so around 30 have attended so far,” she said.
“Young adults come from all the over the deanery and even some from beyond travelling from Bowen Hills and Alderley.”
Topics tackled include “What Theology of the Body is and how it can change your life”, “How to live a life of freedom”, “What real love looks like”, “The difference between love and lust”, and “God has a plan for your future”.
Kristen said “each session seems to be getter better and better … (and) all have been learning so much”.
“It is really opening our eyes to what the Church teaches on the meaning of life and sexuality,” she said.
A highlight has been the small-group discussion time following the talk, with all benefitting from “each other’s ideas and viewpoints”.
“We always seem to go over-time and it’s always interesting to see what the other group has discussed,” Kristen said.
The final night of the study, taking place in Sunnybank parish, is May 17.
