FOR more than a quarter of the school’s 85 years, Alfie Williams has been a cleaner at Brigidine College, Indooroopilly.
It is well known that a positive workplace culture leads to employee loyalty, as expressed in longevity.
Mr Williams’ longevity of 35 years is testimony to the culture of the staff, students and the Brigidine charism.
Staff and students took the news of his recent retirement as an opportunity to say thanks.
Senior student Hailee Ryan said “Alfie has always been there for us”.
“He’s talkative, friendly and extremely generous,” she said.
“He keeps telling us how important education is.
“The seniors in particular will miss him as we’ve known him for so long.”
Mr Williams said the feeling was mutual.
“The most important thing about Brigidine is the girls. Without them, the college is just buildings,” he said.
“I have stayed so long because of the people. In the Brigidine tradition, I have always felt welcomed.”
