MARIST Brother John Venard, a regular columnist for The Catholic Leader, has launched a new book – Finally, The Battler’s God.

Br Venard, at the recent launch at Marist College Ashgrove, where he lives in retirement, said the word “finally” was in the title because this seventh book would be his last.

As with his previous books, this one is a compilation of Br Venard’s Sacred Space columns published in The Catholic Leader.

Br Venard has organised this latest book into four sections – Jesus Stories, Relationship with God, Personal Experience, and Spirituality.

Sisters of St Joseph Queensland provincial Sr Moya Campbell launched the book.

Sr Campbell said she and Br Venard had been friends since they worked together at Chanel College, Gladstone.

Br Venard was principal and Sr Campbell deputy principal for religious education.

Sr Campbell said Br Venard was a man of integrity with a keen sense of humour and a great capacity for friendship.

She said his writings gave a picture of a real God, in touch with real people, and that he gave readers the challenge to find the beauty in others and in ourselves, and there find our God.

Br Venard, in his writings, focuses on the Good News message of Jesus.

Many of Br Venard’s supporters including his sister Josephite Sister Margaret Smith, fellow Marist Brothers and Marist Ashgrove staff attended the book launch.

Profits from the sales of Finally, The Battler’s God and Br Venard’s other books go to the Marist Missions.

Finally, The Battler’s God is available for sale from The Catholic Leader for $12.95 (including postage and handling).
