BISHOP Geoffrey Jarrett celebrated Mass for the Faith on Tap crowd last month at St Joseph’s Church, Kangaroo Point.
The Mass was concelebrated by Redemptorist Father Hugh Thomas and Faith on Tap chaplains Fr Paul Catchlove and Fr Bavin Clarke on March 19.
After Mass, Fr Thomas spoke to the more than 100 youth gathered at the Pineapple Hotel about a fast-growing movement in the Catholic Church.
“Since 1989, more than 3000 centres of Perpetual Adoration have opened around the word,” he said.
” After the Second Vatican Council, devotion to the Blessed Sacrament diminished; it wasn’t the intention of Vatican II, but it happened.”
Quouting Pope Benedict, Fr Thomas said adoration was vital.
“The act of adoration outside Mass prolongs and intensifies all that takes place in the liturgical celebration,” he said.
“Only in adoration can a profound and genuine reception (of the Eucharist) mature.”
He encouraged all Catholics to visit Villa Maria Perpetual Adoration Chapel at Spring Hill.
