MORE than 4000 people walked, ran and even pushed a hospital bed in the 12th annual Mater 5ks for Kids fun walk on June 23.
The event raised about $60,000 for the Mater Children’s Hospital Intensive Care Unit at South Brisbane.
Doctors, nurses and auxiliary staff at the hospital joined with past patients, medical students and the public in giving up their Sunday morning for a worthy cause.
Medical students from the University of Queensland pushed a hospital bed dressed in operating theatre gowns supplied by the Mater.
The sea of people sporting red caps and balloons started their walk at the South Bank Parklands Forecourt and continued around the river to Davies Park in West End where they were greeted with free ice-blocks and drinks.
Walkers turned around and finished back at South Bank where they enjoyed family entertainment and prize draws.
Director of the Mater Hospitals’ Trust and chairman of its special events committee, Betty McGrath said the trust was very pleased with the turn out.
