Beatification in October denied

VATICAN CITY (Zenit): The Vatican has confirmed that Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s cause of beatification is advancing, but denied that the celebration will take place in October.

Commenting on a widely reported news story in the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, Fr Ciro Benedettini, who is sub-director of the Vatican Press Office, said that the beatification would not take place in October. But he added that its progress is “very positive”.

Following Mother Teresa’s death, Pope John Paul II, in an extraordinary decision, waived the five-year waiting period to open the beatification process of the founder of the Missionaries of Charity.
