A LITTLE piece of Germany came to Dorrington Parish in Brisbane on October 13 when the community gathered for Octoberfest.
More than 300 people turned up through the day and evening to sample German beers, music and sausages and to enjoy pony rides, mini golf and other fun and games.
The music of the Oompa Meisters band kept guests tapping their feet and dancing in the parish hall which was turned into a beer hall, and the chook raffle took an unusual twist with the chicken picking the winning number on a sheet of paper laid out in the chicken coup and money as a first prize.
Parish priest, Spiritan Father Pat Doran, said it was an unbelievable night and a huge success with the money collected going back to the parish.
He said it was great to welcome not only parishioners to the celebrations but also neighbours who were non-Catholics and those from surrounding parishes.
