QUEENSLAND’S bishops have outlined plans for a major redevelopment of the Pius XII Provincial Seminary site at Banyo.
The redevelopment will involve a move by Australian Catholic University’s McAuley campus from Mitchelton to Banyo in 2003.
“For the past 61 years Banyo has been the site for the education and formation of Queensland priests,” the bishops write in a joint pastoral letter to be read at Masses this weekend.
“During this time 418 men have been ordained from Banyo, serving parishes in all parts of the state.
“In recent years lay men and women have joined the seminarians for classes in theology and pastoral ministry,” it said.
“The ACU move has brought with it the opportunity to construct a purpose-built theological college on the Banyo site, one which meets the needs of today’s Church.
“The theological college and ACU will share the Banyo site, but will remain separate entities.”
