DOMINICAN Sister Pat Bundock has always taken a special interest in people, regardless of their past.
It was this philosophy which led her to set up the St Martin de Porres Community for the homeless at Wallangarra on the Queensland/NSW border in 1991.
Last Monday it was her turn to be recognised when she was named a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Queen’s Birthday honours list.
Sr Bundock said the honour came with a certain sense of unreality.
‘You don’t do thing for awards,’ she said. ‘I’m just doing God’s will.’
Sr Bundock, 75, retired from running the Wallangarra community in January 2001.
The project is now officially in the hands of Stanthorpe parish, which takes in Wallangarra.
But Sr Bundock is reluctant to leave the country life and still lives in the town in case she needs to lend a hand.
