FORMER Brisbane archdiocese priest and now Broken Bay Bishop Anthony Randazzo has outlined a strong vision for Catholic education.

Launching Towards 2025, an education strategy for the Diocese of Broken Bay, Queenslander Bishop Randazzo said he supported “a strong, vibrant and authentic Catholic education system… one that promotes learning for life, and the flourishing of human and faith development.”

Bishop Randazzo launched the new strategy on the last day of the school term by live streaming to the diocese’s 2600 staff in 47 locations.

Broken Bay diocese provides schooling for 17,000 students in 44 schools.

“The Church is not a building,” the former rector of Brisbane’s Holy Spirit seminary said.

“It’s a community. Education is central to the mission in Broken Bay and you principals, school and CSO staff are among my closest collaborators.”

Bishop Randazzo encouraged staff to inspire the hearts and minds of their students to know Christ, to love learning and to use their talents to be the best persons they could be.

Interim director of schools Danny Casey promoted a one-page document that captured the vision, purpose, priorities and values of Towards 2025.

“We are committed to maintaining focus on our purpose… to collaborating in the mission; to applying evidence-based practice in all our endeavours and to delivering the vision as we strive to be at least as good as the very best,” Mr Casey said.

Bishop Randazzo said Towards 2025 was “about us working together to strive for excellence and achieve something great”.

“The person of Jesus Christ, and his message of Good News is central to who we are and all that we do,” he said.

The Diocese of Broken Bay is one of three dioceses within the Sydney metropolitan area and stretches from the city’s north shore, northern beaches, to the central coast.
