ROCKHAMPTON is one of six dioceses taking part in a project looking into how to stem the flow of disconnected Catholics in Australia.
The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference approved the research project after their plenary meeting last November.
The bishops’ Pastoral Projects Office, based in Melbourne, is carrying out the research involving interviews, focus groups and previous research.
Director of the Pastoral Projects Office, Bob Dixon, said interviews would be carried out in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Hobart and Bunbury dioceses, as well as Rockhampton.
He said the locations would reflect a cross-section of population centres and each of the bishops had been enthusiastic to take part.
Mr Dixon said the research hoped to find the reasons why some adults stop attending Mass.
He said a preliminary report was expected to be ready in time for the bishops’ November plenary meeting.
