STUDENTS at St Joseph Tobruk Memorial School, Beenleigh are creating a permanent memorial to members of the school community, thanks to a $5000 art prize won by a Year 2 student last year.
Amy Silcox won the Fairweather Proberts Prize for Art at the end of last year, which provided funds for an artist-in-residence at the school.
The prize money was also used to buy a kiln for the school.
Ceramic artist Stephanie Outridge-Field has worked with the children to produce individual tiles which will be installed as a permanent memorial in the school library.
Ms Outridge-Field won acclaim for her ceramic tile installation at the new Mater Children’s Hospital, South Brisbane, and is applying a similar technique to construct the memorial to the school’s staff, students and families.
