TEN months of hard work has paid off for artist Ann Olive and the students of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Primary School in Coorparoo.
A mural commemorating the school’s 60th anniversary celebration was unveiled on November 27.
It measures more than 10 sq m and contains a brilliant burst of colourful tiles and paintings.
The central panels depict eight important stages of Our Lady of Mt Carmel’s history, including pictures of the old Franciscan convent and the Loreto Sisters, who were both instrumental in the development of the school.
Extensive research was undertaken before the historical scenes were painted.
Old photos and recent digital photos were some of the references.
The two outside panels contain more than 500 wooden tiles, each one painted by a student, member of staff and the parish personnel of the Regina Caeli and Our Lady of Mt Carmel parishes.
