COME ALIVE IN CHRIST: ARCHBISHOP’S LENTEN MESSAGE
ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby of Brisbane is asking Catholics to concentrate on evangelisation and a deepening of their own faith during Lent.
In his Lenten pastoral letter he suggests five ways to “truly come alive with the life of Jesus Christ”.
“In the first place let us invite as many people as possible into the sacramental life of the Church, to Reconciliation when appropriate, but especially the Eucharist that encapsulates the essence of Christ,” he said.
“It would be marvellous if each parish were able to reach out to all its parishioners this Lent, whether practicing or non-practicing, with an invitation to experience the Eucharistic joy of the risen Christ at Easter time.”
Another aim should be to meet Jesus in Scripture.
The archbishop said the Pope, in his recent apostolic letter for the new millennium, Novo Millenio Ineunte, had written about his desire for every family to have a Bible.
“I hope that parishes can make that possible for their parishioners this year,” Archbishop Bathersby said.
