ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby of Brisbane fulfilled a promise he made 12 months ago when he visited St Augustine’s College, Springfield on August 5.
The archbishop had promised to pay another visit after he had blessed and opened the college in August last year.
Assistant principal for religious education, Erin Wedge, said the college was happy to have a visit from the archbishop two years running.
Archbishop Bathersby was greeted at the front gate by early years students holding coloured streamers waving in the wind.
He then made an informal visit to a number of classrooms where he spent considerable time with Year 8 students, who got the chance to put some ‘interesting’ questions to him, including what his favourite pastime is? To which he replied ‘hiking’.
He also visited the Year 5/6 classroom where students had spent the last four weeks studying the ‘Who’s Who’ of the Catholic Church and were interested in the archbishop’s role and responsibility as head of the Church in Brisbane.
