CORINDA Graceville Parish in Brisbane is the latest in a growing number of parishes to establish columbariums for the ashes of the dead.
Parish priest Fr Tim Harris blessed and dedicated the new columbarium on June 29.
Fr Harris said the columbarium, built in the grounds of St Joseph’s Church, Corinda, was established in response to demand.
Several people in recent years had urged the parish to proceed with the project.
Fr Harris said the columbarium provided a special place of remembrance on parish soil.
As well as being used for the interment of ashes, plaques will also be set in a wall for memorials without ashes.
Niches are available for $490 and it costs $250 to reserve a plaque only.
