MEMBERS of Parliament and Centacare employees have welcomed the Federal Government’s decision for Centacare to operate a new Family Relationship Centre at Chermside, in Brisbane’s north.
Federal Treasurer and Member for Lilley Wayne Swan said the centre, which the Government has committed $1.25 million per year for running costs and an additional $250,000 for establishment costs, would be a big win for the local community.
Member for Petrie Yvette D’Ath agreed the centre would be a great benefit to people living locally.
“Family Relationship Centres are a first point of contact for people wanting information, advice and assistance with strengthening family relationships, preventing separation or resolving relationship difficulties after separation,” she said.
Centacare Catholic Family and Community Services Brisbane director Christine Hodge said the organisation saw its selection to operate the centre as a privilege, and was pleased to be part of such a strong family and community commitment.
The centre is one of 25 Family Relationship Centres recently announced by the Government, 13 of which will be run by Catholic agencies throughout Australia.
It is expected to open to the public in July.
