FOR the last few years, American priest Fr Mike Schmitz has made an international name for himself.
Fr Schmitz’s podcasts and homilies have proven to be a hit with online audiences, having now amassed hundreds of thousands of social media followers and nearly 1 million YouTube subscribers with Ascension Presents.
Fr Schmitz has again become a viral sensation with the recent YouTube video, “The Bible in 10 Minutes”.
Coming in at just 10 minutes and 27 seconds, the video surmises the entire Old and New Testaments – with a focus on God’s plan for humanity’s salvation.
It does so with unique, purpose made animations.
The video pulled in nearly 360,000 views in the first 24 hours, a new record for Fr Schmitz.
Now a few weeks later, it sits at well over 1 million views and nearly 30 thousand likes.
“The Bible is incredible, but sometimes it’s confusing and difficult to read,” Fr Schmitz said.
“This is because it’s not just a book, it’s a collection of books written over thousands of years, in many different styles, all inspired by God and brought together by the Catholic Church.”
Fr Schmitz said that once we understood the Bible told one overarching story of God’s plan for salvation, we could start to grasp the context of each book.
Fr Schmitz also hosted the wildly successful “Bible in a Year” podcast, taking listeners through the entire bible over the course of 365 episodes.
The podcast had 660 million downloads in 2023 alone, often topping the charts and taking spots usually reserved for the world’s biggest podcasters.
