POPE Francis in this year’s Lenten Message highlighted that Lent leads to Easter: “the ‘Retreat’ is not an end in itself but a means of preparing us to experience the Lord’s Passion and Cross with faith, hope and love, ensuring that we arrive at the Resurrection”.
He draws a parallel this year with the Church, now on a Synodal Journey. That “Retreat” is over, we have arrived, it is Easter Sunday.
Mary of Magdala had visited the tomb, she saw the stone removed, and so ran to tell Peter and John.
They hurried to the tomb, John arrived first, he waited for Peter, who arrived and went into the tomb: “Peter saw and he believed.”
Easter celebrates, Jesus is risen, he did die on the Friday and now after three days, he has come back to life as he had prophesised, “destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up”. Christ is Risen, he lives among us, in faith we respond, Alleluia!
