Salary Range: Paid in accordance with the Senior Leadership Salary Scale (DP $138,921 to $149,545 FTE gross per annum)

Deputy Principal – Residential
Mount St Bernard College is located at Herberton on the Atherton Tablelands. Established in 1921 by the Sisters of Mercy as a day and boarding school, the College enjoys a proud history and a rich tradition.
The Sisters of Mercy began their educational ministry in the Herberton district over 100 years ago with the opening of St Patrick’s Parish Catholic Primary School in 1910. Responding to the changing educational needs in Far North Queensland, the original Sisters of Mercy Boarding School, St Mary’s Cooktown, was moved to Herberton in 1921. The Sisters of Mercy gifted the college to the Diocese of Cairns in February 2006 and it is now administered by Cairns Catholic Education Services.
The Catholic Education Community – Diocese of Cairns, is a partnership between Catholic Education Services and twenty-nine schools. The Bishop of Cairns delegates responsibility for the leadership and strategic management of this system of 29 schools to the Executive Director of Catholic Education.
The college has approximately 200 students, 64% of which are First Nations Students, with a combination of boarders and day students.
About the Role
As the Deputy Principal Residential you will be:
- responsible for the provision of care in the Residential Community where justice, compassion, excellence and hospitability should be evident in all interactions of staff with each other and with students, as well as the boarder community
- responsible for developing a team who provides a warm, friendly, safe environment which attends to the pastoral needs (social, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual) of all boarders
- working directly with the Principal in overseeing the systems of care and student management in order to create an effective environment for teaching, learning and living away from home
- working closely with the College Leadership team on all matters affecting boarding student organisation, the religious life of the College, pastoral care and student management
- attending meetings and events outside of normal boarding hours as a representative of the College. Some travel will be require
- reporting in the first instance to the Principal and works closely with the Assistant Principal – Wellbeing and College Business Manager
- to use sensitivity, discretion, confidentiality, vision and a collaborative style of leadership with energy and commitment
- “on call” as agreed with the Principal, specifically during term time. Hours may include weekend work as required. These hours and conditions are reflected in the remuneration package of this role.

- Current drivers licence

Eligibility Requirements
- Be a committed, practicing Catholic
- Professional qualifications in Education and Religion as per Queensland Catholic Education Commission Position Statement for Senior Leadership Positions in Catholic Schools in Queensland
- Hold or be eligible to hold, registration as a teacher in Queensland
- Have administrative and/or leadership experience
