SONG is the perfect way for children to celebrate and learn about their faith, according to Brisbane’s internationally renowned teacher and composer Michael Mangan.

“Children have a special affinity for music,” Mr Mangan said.

“Singing the words of scripture helps kids get to know Jesus and his teachings in a fun and engaging way.

“Also, music adds emotion to the words. Because of the music, our hearts can be touched by the message. We feel what we are singing.”

Educators use songs to help students learn and remember the alphabet and multiplication tables, and Mr Mangan said the same principles apply to faith concepts.

“The trick is having singable songs which are attractive to children and pitched at their level.  They have to want to sing them,” Mr Mangan said.

He suggests popping the CD on in the car on the way to and from school.

Mr Mangan used his experience as a primary music specialist for his latest CD, 1, 2, 3 God Loves Me.

It contains 20 well-crafted songs for pre-school to 8 year-olds.

The infectious rhythms and simple, catchy melodies will have kids (and adults) moving and singing along in no time.

“We want children to know they are special, loved by God, and belong to God’s family – the Church,” Mr Mangan said.

These themes are found in the title track and Come Together, The Family of God and We Are the Church of God. Scripture-based songs include Genesis-inspired God Made Everything to Jesus’ teachings in Peacemakers and Do To Others.

Mr Mangan premiered his new songs at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress and a Canadian tour in March and has also toured widely in Australia and NZ.

“Even upper school kids enthusiastically participate in the singing and accompanying actions. The Jesus Song seemed to be a big hit with all ages,” Mr Mangan said.

Michael Mangan’s music is available from Litmus Productions on their website www.litmusproductions.com or 07 3264 6766.
