The one-day event is a Queensland first and will provide a platform for senior secondary students to discuss critical issues affecting global food resources and population growth, as well as the future of Australia’s agriculture industry.
Guest speakers on the day will include Director of CSIRO Sustainable Agriculture Dr Brian Keating and author of The Coming Famine Julian Cribb.
St Laurence’s College principal Ian McDonald said the prospect of future global food challenges “had to be discussed amongst the current generation of students”.
“To bring together so many talented, young people and to acknowledge that they are part of a global world confronting a critical issue of world demography, is an opportunity to educate future leaders,” he said.
It is hoped the Forum will also encourage students to consider pursuing tertiary studies and careers in the field of agriculture and the environment.
The event is open to all Year 10, 11 and 12 students in Queensland.
