Welcoming people with disability

GREAT enthusiasm and hope were the words used to describe the response to a new pastoral document launched by Brisbane Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Oudeman on September 18.

The pastoral document ‘I Have a Story: People with disability and their families participating fully in parish life’ was an initiative of the Bishops’ Committee for Family and for Life.

The launch at the O’Shea Centre, Wilston was attended by people with disabilities and their families.

Disability resource education officer Jacinta Walker said people with disabilities in parish communities were calling out for access, ‘not just into our church buildings, but for opportunities for belonging, participation, as well as spiritual, faith and leadership development’.

She said people with disabilities and their families would have an opportunity to come along and be part of a special workshop at the O’Shea Centre, Wilston on October 2 to plan for the future.

The workshop is free. For more details phone (07) 3840 0599.
