A COMMEMORATIVE stained glass window has been installed and dedicated at Regina Caeli Church, Coorparoo Heights, on Brisbane’s southside.

Parish administrator, Fr John Garrahy, said the window was in memory of Fr Pat McCormick.

He said it depicted aspects of Fr McCormick’s life including his time as a military chaplain.

Fr McCormick, who died on April 20, 2001, spent the last 18 years of his priesthood at Regina Caeli parish.

Fr Garrahy said the window, which was designed by Gerry Cummins and Jill Stehn on the Sunshine Coast, was installed on December 20 and dedicated on December 21.

He said it was commissioned by the parish at a cost of about $20,000.

The artists who created the window said it was decided during early discussions that it should be a biographical window which would depict in images the story of Fr McCormick’s life.

Fr McCormick’s sister, Claire Dwyer, and Regina Caeli parishioner, Peter Geraghty, were heavily involved in initial planning for the window, providing the artists with photographs and information.

It is the second time Fr McCormick’s life has been commemorated.

A memorial was compiled and presented to St Edmund’s College, Ipswich in 2002 by two former school friends.
