Matthew’s ordination brings joy

MATTHEW Moloney said yes to a call from God in front more than 1000 people at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Rockhampton on November 11.

Rockhampton Bishop Brian Heenan welcomed Matthew’s family and friends, many who had travelled from across the state and in particular his home town of Longreach, to share in witnessing 36 year-old Matthew accept a new life as a priest and ‘a life of service to God and God’s people’.

The ordination was concelebrated by 36 priests from Rockhampton diocese, Brisbane and Holy Spirit Seminary, Wavell Heights.

Anglican Bishop Godfrey Fryar of Rockhampton and his wife, together with leaders and representatives of other Christian traditions, also attended the ceremony.

Matthew said he was a little overwhelmed at the number of people who attended the ordination.

‘It was a great coming together, lots of smiles and laughter, and it was great to see so many young people involved,’ he said.

Bishop Heenan said the ordination was a significant and joyous occasion for the diocese.

Fr Moloney has been appointed to continue his ministry in Rockhampton South Parish.
