Brisbane prepares for Ashes to Life celebration

STUDENTS from Mt St Michael’s College, Ashgrove, have been busy preparing banners for Brisbane’s ecumenical Ashes to Life service of repentance on Ash Wednesday. The students were the only ones who responded to a recent invitation to schools to attend a briefing at South Brisbane on how young people could contribute. As a result, they have taken on an organising role, contacting Catholic and other Christian schools about participation and preparing banners for the day.

Christians from a range of traditions will gather at the River Stage at 8pm on Ash Wednesday after marching from their City churches. The gathering will acknowledge “that our history includes events of which we are not proud, occasions when we have failed in our fidelity to the Gospel and have failed in our call to love one another”.
