BANYO seminarians and staff gathered for their opening of the year Mass in the seminary chapel on January 31.
In welcoming them, the new rector, Fr Michael McCarthy said that they were part of a wonderful tradition.
“You are following the footsteps of hundreds of others who have gathered in the Banyo chapel over the past 50 years, following the call to ordained ministry.”
He reminded students that being a priest was the most rewarding job they could ever have.
“It provides you with an opportunity to walk with people, in their life and in their relationship with God,” he said.
Earlier, in the day, Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane was on hand at Wavell Heights to welcome the students to the seminary year.
He was followed by Bishop Brian Heenan of Rockhampton who also visited the seminary during the week.
