A YOUNG African child will have a better Christmas this year thanks to a six year-old artist from Brisbane.
Alyssia McDonald, a Year 1 student at St Joseph’s School, Kangaroo Point, is holding a gallery evening on December 6 from 6pm-9pm to raise money to sponsor a child suffering in Africa.
Alyssia will sell her paintings, each with its own personal story, for about $50 each, with the money going to World Vision Australia’s Better Futures Project.
Alyssia said she paints because she wants to look after children in Africa, whether it is rescuing a boy soldier from war in Uganda or buying a cow for a village in Malawi.
Her paintings feature different experiences in her life, from friends and family to ghosts, rabbits and spaceships.
Alyssia’s mother, Debbie, said it took a couple of intense hours of splashing and brushing before a canvas was complete.
