ASYLUM seekers have been accused of all sorts of crimes.
One of the worst was that they threw their children overboard during an incident at sea last year.
This accusation was never substantiated but it was given credence by those who were prepared to use the asylum seekers issue for short-term political gain.
Asylum seekers are being judged by many Australians even before they reach our shores.
Certainly some of these people may be what we regard as undesirables, but to taint all asylum seekers with the same brush cannot be justified.
Misinformation such as claims asylum seekers throw their children overboard or sew their children’s lips together only seek to perpetuate the stereotypical myths harboured by some Australians – even a number who claim to be good Christians.
