Fair Treatment for Refugees

IT is disturbing to hear that hundreds more refugees on temporary protection visas will be released to fend for themselves in the Australian community.

The Federal Government has failed to respond compassionately to the needs of these refugees by dumping them on the community without any tangible means of support.

The burden is being picked up by agencies such as the Catholic Church’s Centre for Multicultural Pastoral Care in Brisbane, already struggling to provide assistance to migrants and refugees.

If the Government is to face up to its responsibility of humanely treating asylum seekers, it must offer these people greater assistance while they wait for their cases to be determined.
