“ARTS and Hearts” is the theme of the annual fair at St Ambrose’s Primary School, Newmarket, this weekend, reflecting two key elements of the “little school with a big heart”.
The theme reflects the school’s special focus on the arts, and its connection to the community and its expression of the “habits of the heart” – generosity, perseverance, remembering, tolerance, love and hope.
The fair, which is the school Parents’ and Friends’ association’s major fundraiser of the year, will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 11am-7pm.
The fair will feature market stalls, rides and attractions including baby animals, rock wall and jumping castle, live music, science show, art displays, auctions and showbags.
St Ambrose’s teachers will have an information booth and the school’s Integrated Arts room will be open for visitors.
A spokesperson said the arts centre “engages children from Prep to Year 7 with all five of the arts strands – dance, drama, music, media arts and visual arts”.
“The arts are an integral part of the culture of our school life,” the spokesperson said.
“The power and presence of this key learning area make it an ideal vehicle for expression outside the norm.
“The ethos of our school is captured and celebrated through the arts; for it offers our students a chance to explore and reflect on themselves, their school community and their part in the world.”
