ST JOHN the Baptist Primary School, Gladstone held a memorial service on September 10 for principal Paul Daglish who died after battling cancer.
Mr Daglish was principal at the school for three years.
Acting principal Jakki Graham spoke at the memorial service and highlighted Mr Daglish’s dedication to the school.
“We were blessed to have Mr Daglish as both our principal and friend,” she said.
“In stature he was so unassuming but in spirit and leadership he was a giant.”
Pastoral support was being provided to the school by Centacare counsellors, parish priest Marist Father Paul Mahony and the Gladstone parish community.
Staff from nearby Catholic schools in Gladstone and Tannum Sands, along with representatives from the Catholic Education Office in Rockhampton, banded together to provide practical support for St John’s.
Catholic Education diocesan director Leesa Jeffcoat said Bishop Brian Heenan and the Catholic Education community extended their sympathy and prayers to Mr Daglish’s family, and to the staff and students of his school.
“There is no doubt Paul made a huge difference to St John’s in Gladstone,” she said.
Miss Jeffcoat spoke of “Paul’s legacy of care and compassion” which would live on “through the deeds of everyone whose lives he touched in such a positive way.”
“His dedication, enthusiasm, dynamism and love for his school community will never be forgotten,” she said.
Mr Daglish’s funeral was held in Melbourne on September 17.
