THE Brisbane Chinese Catholic community is having a double celebration – Chinese New Year and Australia Day, January 26.
The Chinese Year of the Monkey dawned on Thursday, and the community is also flying the flag for Australia Day.
Brisbane Chinese Catholic community vice-president Peter Chow said the New Year was being celebrated with a dinner at the community’s centre at Runcorn this weekend.
Founded in 1985 at the instigation of Tom Chow and Missionary of the Sacred Heart Father Albert Chan, the Chinese Catholic community now has more than 800 families on its books.
Members come from as far as Toowoomba and the Gold Coast.
